Much of the time, the Sunday Scaries are what make Monday seem so dreadful. You know the feeling you get on Sunday when you realize tomorrow is Monday, and you are instantly anxious. We can make Monday easier by saying goodbye to the Sunday Scaries, and I am sharing how I do just that, every weekend:
Get Plenty of Sleep Saturday Night
We should always get plenty of sleep, but I am particularly emphatic about getting a solid sleep on Saturday. Lack of sleep = more anxiety. When I wake up on Sunday feeling super well-rested, I am always in a good mood. If I have stayed up too late the night before, I get grumpy and irritated (and those Sunday Scaries can get to me much faster).
Do Your Errands on Saturday
I used to always wait until Sunday to do my chores and grocery shopping. I realized that doing housework on Sunday was making me feel annoyed because I just wanted to relax before the week started. Now, I put in laundry Friday afternoon when I get home from work, and I grocery shop for the week on Saturday. I never mind doing these tasks on Friday and Saturday since they are usually happy, carefree days, and nothing gets to me!
Similarly, Do Work on Saturday
If I have any work to do over the weekend, I complete it on Saturday. I do not wait until Sunday! Interacting with my work on Sunday brings on the Sunday Scaries so much faster.
Make Sunday a Day for You
Instead of errands, I now spend Sundays exactly how I want to. I take long walks in the park, go to brunch, or read a good book. I find that when I make Sundays for me, I enjoy them all the way through. I never really stop to think about Monday.
Establish a Fun Sunday Tradition
It helps to have something to look forward to on Sundays, no matter how small. Currently, for me, I am watching Sharp Objects on HBO every Sunday night. It is dark and strange and a perfect distraction. For you, maybe you decide to have a coffee date with a friend every Sunday, or attend a restorative yoga class. Whatever it is, savor it.
When I make my Sundays sweet and simple, I do not give myself the time or brain space to dwell on the dread of an impending Monday. And before I know it, Monday is over.
What helps to ease your mind before Monday?

We watch one episode of Game of Thrones every Sunday afternoon or evening and I love that little Sunday tradition! (We started 20 weeks ago and we’ll finish mid-July next year! Though we’ll probably speed it up once the final season gets a release date.) We’re also pretty good at keeping at least Sunday evenings free so we can just relax and hang out. I do a face mask before bed and we’ve also added a foot soak to the routine as well. It’s fantastic!
