This past weekend, I went to stay with a dear friend from high school in her new Brooklyn apartment. If you know me, you know that I love New York City. It’s a place I could go again and again. The city just has so much to offer, and the possibilities are endless. Here’s how Willa and I spent this particular trip!
Saturday
I arrived on Saturday afternoon and took a taxi to my friend’s darling new place (which she said was a work in progress, but I loved it just as it was!) and met her new pup, Goose! We took him to the dog park and caught up on all things life. That evening, I didn’t take any photos, but we went to Emma’s Torch for dinner, followed by a glass of wine and some charcuterie at Black Mountain Wine House (highly recommend). And once home, in true girls weekend-style, we watched a classic flick – How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days.
Sunday
On this morning, we rode the subway to Dumbo, a neighborhood in Brooklyn with gorgeous views of the Manhattan skyline. We walked the streets and wandered in a few shops. Back home, we ate lunch and had some tea to prepare for our next outing.
We headed to Manhattan and toured the newly expanded MoMA. It was absolutely packed but filled with some wonderful art and worth the visit! Catch the Dorothea Lange exhibition through May 9.
We then walked through Central Park (with a warm beverage in hand), admiring the sky as the sun had finally begun to peek out in the late afternoon.
We stopped to watch the ice skaters in the park.
And after a ride down Fifth Avenue, we were on our way back to Brooklyn. Once again, I didn’t take any photos this evening (I was just enjoying the moment!), but Willa and I had a wonderful dinner at The Longshoreman, a cozy, charming spot. Before bed, we watched her show, Dare Me (catch it on USA Sunday evenings).
Monday
This was President’s Day, and how wonderful it was to wake up still in New York instead of back at work! Willa and I took Goose to Prospect Park, an expansive, beautiful park in Brooklyn that makes you forget you’re in the Big City, for a sunny morning walk. It was the perfect goodbye before I headed to the airport and back home to Nashville.
And this is what I love about New York! Every trip is different and offers new opportunities. You could spend all your time in one area and have a very full trip! This time, I loved seeing a mix of Brooklyn and Manhattan – and catching up with one of my best girls while doing it.
Have you been to New York? What’s your favorite spot?
P.S. A few spots I recommend if it’s your first trip to NYC: Ellen’s Stardust Diner, NBC Studios, Rockefeller Center, Top of the Rock, TKTS Discount Booth to see a same-day show, Fifth Avenue to shop, and afternoon tea at BG.
