Last weekend, I got out all the baking supplies I’d bought on sale last year- the sugar cookie mix (still good to use!), mini loaf pans, and apron from Crate & Barrel, and the Cook with Color 13-Piece Baking Set from Nordstrom Rack. My mom loves to bake, and usually I enjoy making Christmas cookies with her every year. But this year (to be safe), I decided to go for it on my own.
I played my favorite holiday tunes on my Google Nest Hub (would make a great gift for someone!), which shows lovely videos of snowy scenes along with the songs, and made gingerbread cookies using this mix. I even hung up string lights in the kitchen to make things extra festive. I got very absorbed in the process and found a lot of joy in rolling out the dough, cutting cookie shapes, baking, and decorating.
I realized that baking holiday cookies can be the perfect escapism – both therapeutic and delightful – and simply something fun to do solo when I’m unable to be with others. And so this weekend, I plan on making those sugar cookies from last year. I was lucky to find plenty of beautiful sprinkles at Whole Foods (many places seem to be sold out currently). If you’d like to join me in having baking adventures, here are some things to make the experience even sweeter!
