This past weekend, H and I traveled on our first real trip since pre-pandemic times. In the past year, we drove to the beach twice – last summer and this past spring break – but this was our first time flying, being in public spaces, and socializing with others, made possible by the fact that we are both fully vaccinated, as were those we spent time with. It was also my first time ever in the state of Texas!
We flew Southwest direct to Dallas Love Field. I wiped the seats down with sanitizing wipes, and we wore KN95 masks. Our flights there and back were both full, but everyone kept their masks on and was quiet for the duration of the flights.
Once there, we could focus on the purpose of the trip – to celebrate one of H’s college friends getting married. The weather was surprisingly cloudy and cool, which ended up making for a pleasant weekend (though we had been hoping to hang out by the pool)! Here are the highlights from our travels:
Friday night dinner in Highland Park Village
We arrived Friday afternoon, and after getting settled and taking a nap, met up with some of H’s friends for dinner in Highland Park Village. This was a very attractive, walkable area with high-end shops and lots of restaurants with patios. It was our first time going out to eat since before the pandemic, and we put our names down for an outdoor table at Mi Cocina, a popular Tex-Mex spot in the area. We had a bit of a wait and sat outside for drinks at The Honor Bar across the street. When we finally sat down at Mi Cocina’s patio to eat, it was worth the wait. We shared guacamole, and I had a delicious taco salad with chicken. I definitely recommend arriving early if you are interested in eating there as they do not take reservations.
Saturday at Katy Trail Ice House
Katy Trail Ice House is a beer garden and restaurant on the historic Katy Trail. It has a huge patio with lots of space for small or big groups and great food. It was the perfect spot to hang out outside and enjoy some lunch before the wedding that night. After eating, H and I walked around back to the Katy Trail to explore. The Katy Trail was once an abandoned railroad line and now offers beautiful scenery along a 3.5-mile path on which to walk, run, or bike.
Saturday Night at the Hotel Crescent Court
On Saturday, we checked in at the Hotel Crescent Court, where the wedding would be held, and loved walking around the courtyard, which provided such a peaceful spot to relax and get fresh air.
Although we did have a bit of a delay at check-in, the ease of being at the site of the wedding was well worth it, and the accommodations truly could not be beat.
We got ready and had the best time at the wedding that night!
Although I only saw I small part of Dallas, I loved it, and I definitely want to go back another time. What are your favorite places in Dallas?
