Happy Memorial Day weekend – it’s the unofficial start of summer! My last day of school was Thursday, and after this wild school year (I teach third grade; we’ve been in person all year with some remote students) I feel more ready for summer than ever. I am looking forward to warm days spent in the sun and at the beach, and a summer that looks and feels a lot more normal. We need it!
Here are some ways I’m celebrating the start of this much-anticipated summer:
Just relaxing
It’s been a year of working really hard and navigating the challenges presented by teaching in person and remotely. For me, I am starting my summer by just relaxing – by allowing myself to rest, sleep, be, and decompress. I would encourage you to give yourself space and time to do the same.
Being with friends
How lovely and refreshing it is to be vaccinated and have friends who are, too. I am excited to be with friends and resume getting together regularly again.
Eating fresh foods
Summer has some of my favorites in season – berries, tomatoes, grapes, watermelon, peaches, cantaloupe, cucumbers, and more! I love all the delicious juicy summer foods that make for super refreshing eats.
Spending time outdoors
I love water, and my preferred way to spend summer days is by the pool or ocean. When I don’t have access to one, I’ll sit in my new mini pool. I can’t wait to pump it up!
