My daily makeup routine takes 5 minutes at the most – and for events, just a few minutes longer. I prefer a fairly simple and natural look for most any occasion, and I like to keep things easy and efficient. I am sharing the products I use, for everything from a day of teaching to attending a wedding.
Every day after moisturizing, I always use EltaMD’s tinted facial sunscreen. This is truly the best facial sunscreen and my favorite skincare product that I own. It applies smoothly, provides a perfect light tint, moisturizes, lets skin breathe, and provides protection. I love knowing that I’m keeping my skin healthy with this sunscreen every day.
After, I put on a very light layer of La Roche-Posay BB Blur, which provides a matte effect, essentially making my skin appear flawless. Unfortunately, this cream has been discontinued, so when my tube runs out I will try Tarte’s BB cream or switch to Supergoop! CC cream which I have used and enjoyed in past summers.
Finally, I apply a small dab of Tarte Shape Tape concealer under my eyes, which hides dark circles, makes my eyes appear brighter, and provides smooth, full coverage all day. I gently pat with my finger tips to apply. For my skin, I use the shade light sand.
My must-have product is definitely mascara; I’ve always had long eyelashes and love to make them pop. I switch back and forth between my two favorites – BADgal BANG!, shown here, and Thrive’s Liquid Lash Extensions Mascara. They are both excellent choices; they apply cleanly with no clumps and volumize beautifully.
On a typical day, I stop applying makeup there – just sunscreen with a tiny bit of BB cream and concealer, plus mascara. If I want to look nicer or am getting dressed up, I keep going! I apply a bit of eyeliner to my top and bottom lids. I’ve been using L’Oreal’s Infallible in black brown for years. It glides on easily, and I like the built-in blender. I also use one of Tarte’s eyeshadow palettes and apply a light shade with a little shimmer.
The rest of my routine is usually for events only. I brush on a bit of Tarte’s Amazonian Clay Full Coverage Foundation (currently sold out- check out their finishing powder, too) all over, followed by bareMinerals invisible bronzer (out of stock as well; see their new bronzers here) and Tarte Amazonian clay highlighter in shade exposed (nude light). I apply the bronzer to my cheeks, top of my forehead, and jawline. I apply the highlighter to my cheekbones, along my nose, and on my chin.
Occasionally I put on a little of this liquid liner or Thrive’s Bright Eye Brighter in champagne shimmer as well. I also might apply a bit of lipstick. But otherwise, that’s really it! I don’t wear blush; I’ve just never liked it. This full makeup routine takes me less than 10 minutes as I apply quick, light layers of everything.
What is your makeup routine?
P.S. My skincare routine. I’ve just added one product since – this defense serum that I apply nightly between washing and moisturizing. It’s lovely!

Three cheers for a simple, pretty make-up routine (esp in the Summertime!) I love looking at other’s beauty routines for everyday vs. special occasions, it’s so interesting to me. Though I will encourage you to give blush another try 🙂 it doesn’t even have to be pink/red! I have a peach colored blush that is so subtle on my skin but still adds a little something that is so pretty, especially in the warmer months.
