As a teacher, summer is my least busy season and favorite time for home projects (see last year’s closet clean-out and laundry room organization). This fall, H and I are getting married, and we have started receiving some wedding gifts as well as bridal shower gifts from a few weekends ago. Many of these are for the kitchen, so this past week I have been going through every drawer and cabinet and choosing items to give away in order to replace them with the new. I’ve also reorganized and rearranged the space. It has felt good to give the kitchen a refresh! I went around the house and placed some of the other non-kitchen-related gifts as well. I have been trying hard to stay organized with writing thank you notes and then unpacking the gifts in a timely manner so it doesn’t become overwhelming! Here are some of the updates in our home:
I always appreciate fresh flowers on the kitchen table. I picked out these white hydrangeas at Trader Joe’s. I also made the kitchen corner less cluttered by moving the peace lily and small white table to the front hall, and I rolled the cart in front of the window, as seen in the top photo. I have been considering getting a big tall plant for that now-empty corner!
Here’s that peace lily and white table, which I’ve used as a place to store our most-worn shoes. I also got this rug secondhand from a colleague; it’s in great condition! I love it. I think these additions make the front hall warmer and more welcoming. Shop sisal rugs like this one here.
I’ve had this Monstera and Great Escapes USA book on our coffee table since getting them for my birthday and have been enjoying them. For my bridal shower, I got this neutral tray (similar here) and love it – simple yet chic.
I also placed this sweet picture frame in the living room with a photo from our engagement shoot inside.
And finally, I added this beautiful hydrangea pillow to the bed!
There will be more gifts in the months to come – but this is a start, and I’m going to try to stay on top of home organization during this time. Do you have any summer projects?
P.S. What was new in the kitchen last June and how I organized our small pantry space.
