Earlier this week, I returned from my family’s annual summer vacation in a small, bucolic Rhode Island town. My grandmother built the house where we stay shortly before I was born, and it is a treasured place for me and my family. The few weeks I spend in Rhode Island are precious, filled with beach days and swims, long afternoons reading in the sun, fresh fruits and vegetables from local farm stands, and quiet walks among the coastal flowers. The wild landscape calms me, and the ocean rejuvenates me; I am always reminded of how healing it is to find slow moments in nature.
This year, I took my new camera with me and enjoyed capturing my favorite place with it. I am sharing some of the photos here, and hope you feel a sense of ease as you view them.
House
Late afternoons are a favorite time, when we are home from the beach, have had our outdoor showers, and read or talk on the deck.
We often have gorgeous views of summer sunset skies.
This is the view down the road from our house:
Beach
Most days, we go to the beach and swim, walk, and read.
The photos below are from H’s and my last day – we went to the beach in the morning before our late afternoon flight.
Farm
This beloved farm belongs to family friends, and we enjoyed a gathering here one weekend afternoon.
How I love these sweet, simple summer days.
P.S. Life lessons learned in Rhode Island and thoughts on last summer’s beach reads (this year’s coming soon!).
