Happy Labor Day Weekend! This transition from summer to fall always brings me a bittersweet feeling – the end of carefree summer days and the beginning of crisp air and holidays. I love summer and fall for different reasons, but I find the transition to be a bit difficult every year, particularly as a teacher adjusting to being back at school.

In the summer, I can read an entire book in a couple of days, devouring novel after novel without distraction. I lounge by the ocean and soak up the sun, or laze around the house when it rains. It is a stretch of ease and simplicity.
Going back to school in August can make it difficult to find balance, as work and fatigue consume each day. I read books more slowly, and moments to just be become a distant memory. But as the seasons shift, a new kind of magic takes over once it’s time to pick out pumpkins and celebrate fall’s beginning.

Until we arrive truly in autumn, this in-between time can be somewhat tricky to navigate, but there are always little things we can embrace and enjoy. Let’s eat the last in-season juicy peaches, and perhaps take a dip in a body of water. We should make space to find a slow pace and be still in September. The new month does not mean we must pack our schedules full; let’s take some of summer’s softness with us as we go.
P.S. These final summer days, 5 things to love about September, and easing into a new season.
