Over the holiday season, H and I excitedly had some projects complete in our new master bedroom and closet.
Master Closet
The first big project was our master closet renovation. When we moved into our house last August, the master bedroom had an adjacent room with two reach-in closets. We thought the space could be better utilized, formed a dream of turning the entire space into one big master closet, made it happen, and completed the project in December.
Before
After
First, H used a local contractor to tear down the wall that separated the reach-in closets. Then he worked with our go-to handyman to change the electrical for the new room. H also patched and repaired the drywall on his own. Finally, we both painted the room the same color that we used for the living room and bedroom – Fleur de Sel (it’s so pretty).
We had planned our closet design with Lauren from California Closets, and eight weeks later, they installed our new closet in early December! We were immediately in love with everything, and especially the special details – our custom units, window seat, and the island with built-in his-and-her hampers. That same night, we moved all of our clothes in – we just couldn’t wait.
After the closet install, H and his dad installed the new crown molding, and he finished patching and sanding everything. Our new light fixture was installed. We found a rug for either side of the island, a full-length mirror, and a window seat cushion, and we placed special items on our open shelves (a new calendar, vase, framed photo, and plant for me). Finally, we put in quartz countertops on the island and our open shelf areas. I recently discovered a small cordless lamp that gives off soft lighting and is dimmable – perfect for getting dressed in the early morning before work. We are both so happy with the closet!
Our vision was to match the other areas in our house, and this closet especially complements our kitchen.
Set of Framed Photos
In the late December days before returning to work, I finally had a vision for filling the blank wall beside our bed, which came to me after I had finished scrapbooking some recent photographs and found beautiful, professionally printed photos from our wedding that were just sitting in an envelope. I decided to make a little gallery of my favorites on the wall, and after much searching and comparing, ordered a set of six of these beautiful frames in gray – I wanted high-quality frames that would last.
Now I see these photos when falling asleep and waking up, and they make me happy as I remember our joyful wedding day.
Making a house a home takes time, and it feels quite good to take another step in that direction. Do you have any home projects that you would like to begin this year?
