I made a batch of delicious, soft sugar cookies using the same King Arthur cookie mix that I use for Christmas cookies (I have a gluten intolerance, but they are delicious for gluten eaters, too!). However, I did not want to spend quite as much time on them as I do for holiday baking, so I tried a shorter method for decorating and am pleased to say that it worked. Here is how I made these heart-shaped treats.
- Preheat oven to 350.
- Combine cookie mix with other ingredients as listed on the box instructions to make the dough.
- Scoop out heaping tablespoons of dough on baking sheets lined with parchment paper.
- Use fingers to form a heart. Flatten the dough with your palm, form Vs at the bottom, and separate the dough in two at the top, then flatten further to create the heart shape.
- Paint hearts lightly with water.
- Decorate with sprinkles.
- Bake for 10 minutes, and let cool.
I made these pretty quickly and could have spent a little more time to make the hearts more even, but I am satisfied with the results. With holiday cookies, I always make frosting and decorate with sprinkles after baking, but I’m glad to know that putting the sprinkles on before baking works as well. Either way, they are a soft, light, and pillowy delicious treat.
A very happy Valentine’s week to you!
