I am writing this on a Wednesday at 5:40 pm. I am sitting outside on our screen porch, and the sun is shining through, the birds singing merrily. It is exactly 70 degrees without a cloud in the sky. This is my perfect day. After the dreariness of winter – a season that I do appreciate for its slowness, coziness, and occasional southern snow – spring feels miraculous. I love all seasons, but spring, to me, is the loveliest. As the daffodils rise from the ground and cherry blossoms bloom, the first light green appears on the trees, and the days grow longer, the world feels hopeful and ethereal. Here are some ways to nurture yourself as the earth becomes green and lively again.
- Notice the beauty. Go for walks, and take photos of the fleeting blooms. Listen to the birds. Tilt your face up to the sun.
- Cut a bouquet from your garden or yard, or arrange grocery store flowers in a vase at home. The presence of flowers inside is a simple joy.
- Wear a soft cardigan on a breezy day. It feels so welcome after donning heavy winter coats.
- Open a door or window to let in fresh air, and dance to a favorite upbeat song.
- Choose a lighter moisturizer as the days warm, and remember to wear sunscreen every day (even in the winter, but especially now).
- Embark on spring cleaning. It feels wonderful to have a super clean and tidy home for the new season.
- Plan a vacation. It’s exciting and fun to look forward to adventures.
- Increase your water intake in the warmer weather and when being more active.
- Book a high tea experience, or enjoy a lunch al fresco. Have a special outing in the sunshine.
- There is no pressure to do anything; allow yourself to be and savor the season as you wish. Always be gentle with yourself.
I hope you enjoy this dreamy season!
P.S. Potting new plants and flowers for spring and Easter decorations in our new home.
