It’s September 1st. Yesterday, I awoke to a bright, beautiful morning and welcome long weekend after the always busy, exhausting first few weeks of the school year. I snapped these photos of our home that, washed in sunlight, seemed a little like magic. I felt a sense of relief and accomplishment, and a need to simply rest and be.

This time of year often provokes some melancholy for summer’s end, with a quiet, lingering anticipation of fall waiting to arise.

But once school is fully in swing, as it is for me now, I feel ready for autumn, and all the little delights that come with it.

And so, I will keep savoring time reading on the screen porch as the temperatures begin to cool…

…and enjoy the rest of late summer’s blooms before swapping them with pumpkins and mums in a few weeks.
Here is a little poem I wrote for September:

Wishing you a beautiful new month in which you can both reflect on summer and feel an excitement for autumn.
