Peppermint tea in holiday mugs, sugar cookies, comfy Christmas dresses – the past week has been filled with fun, cozy, and festive things. And there’s more to come now that it’s officially my winter break; I have two weeks of vacation. I am really looking forward to this bright and joyful time. Here’s a little update on some things I’ve been up to lately:
Making gluten-free Christmas cookies
This is my first holiday since discovering my gluten intolerance and thus my first time making gluten-free Christmas cookies. Thankfully, I found King Arthur’s mix, and it made the most delicious soft cookies! In keeping the Christmas cookie-making tradition, I made my own glaze with confectioners sugar and almond milk and added sprinkles on top. They turned out perfect, and even my gluten-eating family members love them.
Giving something cute and simple
I’m a third grade teacher and on a teaching team with three other women. This year, I gave them each a bottle brush tree candle and “snow work and all play” bar soap inside this snow globe gift bag.
Wearing comfy outfits
My dress is The Katherine from Hill House Home, and it is so lovely and comfortable. I’ve been wearing it every night and sleeping in it as well. I truly value having high-quality beautiful items like this; they can be so special. I have been enjoying this bow scrunchie as well.
These New Balance 996 Classic Sneakers are my new favorites for everyday wear and walks. They are lightweight and as comfy as a cloud.
I rediscovered a favorite plaid dress from a few years ago and wore it on a Friday date night with H to celebrate the start of winter break.
Sipping tea by the fire
I drink tea daily, year-round (black in the morning, occasionally green in the afternoon, peppermint before bed), but there’s something special about tea by the fire while wrapped in your favorite cozy blanket.
Adding to the Christmas decor
I got some new better and brighter fairy lights that are operated with a remote control – so easy! I love them and think they make the front porch look much more festive.
I discovered this pink townhouse candle and immediately fell in love with it. It’s simply beautiful and will continue to be a precious decoration even after I’ve used the entire candle (which smells amazing!).
On the last day of school before break, I was given a few poinsettias and a small bouquet of flowers – I love the vibrant, fresh touch they add to the kitchen and living room.
Our flannel sheets are back on the bed! They keep us warm and snug all winter long.
Wrapping gifts
Just yesterday, I put on some of my favorite Christmas music and wrapped all of my gifts! I find it easiest to wrap on a bed while standing. This year, I was interested in using some recycled materials to wrap, but since I still had wrapping paper on hand, it seemed the most sustainable choice to use that first. I tied my gifts with some white-and-gold sparkly string that I already had as well. Perhaps next year I’ll experiment a bit more.
Festive things to come: Making gluten-free gingerbread cookies with my mom, watching some classic Christmas movies, finishing my cozy holiday book, and of course celebrating Christmas Eve and Day with family.
What holiday activities do you have planned for this week?
P.S. My blog will be on hiatus for the holidays. In the meantime, please check out my other posts for the season! I hope you have a wonderful rest of 2021.
