I am sharing a few books I’ve read and loved this spring! I hope you enjoy:
Without a Hitch by Mary Hollis Huddleston and Asher Fogle Paul
I finished Without a Hitch on my plane ride back to Nashville over spring break. This was such a cute and fun book to read, especially now as we are going through the process of wedding planning! It tells the story of Lottie Jones, a new wedding planner navigating a competitive workplace and the complications of creating happily-ever-afters for extravagant weddings (so many mishaps!), while trying to figure out what she really wants in life. It’s a funny, sweet, and easy-to-read book — especially perfect if you are in the wedding industry or have been involved at all in planning a wedding, or even if you are just a millennial living in the South. For those who live in Nashville, one of the authors, Mary Hollis Huddleston, is the cofounder and creative director of Please Be Seated (which we are using for our own wedding)! While this book is fiction, it’s fun to imagine the real-life events that may have inspired some of the book.
One Italian Summer by Rebecca Serle
This was a quick, easy read, and despite the subject matter, lighter and simpler than I was expecting (not a bad thing, just noting). It tells the story of Katy, whose mother has just passed away from cancer. She leaves her husband at home and travels solo to Positano, a place her mother once loved and where they were to travel together. At the beginning of her trip, she unexpectedly meets her mother, in her youth, and gets to know this young version of Mom during her vacation. We see Katy heal, learn, and eventually figure out where to go from here. There were some plot points that I did not love involving Katy’s relationships. What made this book for me were the rich, beautiful descriptions of Positano — the breathtaking scenery and landscape, the Hotel Poseidon where she stays, and the mouthwatering food she eats. It all sounded so dreamy and made me want to travel there very much. And for that, it is a worthwhile read.
These Precious Days by Ann Patchett
This is a collection of essays by Ann Patchett, and I loved it. I read one (and sometimes part of one when it was longer) every night before going to sleep. In her essays, she discusses her relationships (such as the one with her three fathers, and a remarkable friend) and the moments that make life sweet and memorable. It is a heartfelt, personal, beautiful read.
What books are you enjoying this spring?
P.S. More books to read.
