My birthday was this past Tuesday, April 4, and my mom’s birthday is coming up on the 10th. We always enjoy celebrating together with fun spring activities around our city. We decided to try a few new restaurants and happenings in Nashville, as well as a beloved longtime tradition. Here are some things we really enjoyed doing over the past week, and that I would recommend for a celebration or just for fun!
Afternoon Tea at Blue Aster
Last Saturday afternoon at 2 o’clock, we went to the new Afternoon Tea experience at Blue Aster, the restaurant located inside the Conrad. It was a leisurely and wonderful time with champagne, a selection of delicious teas, and sweet and savory bites. They even made a gluten-free plate for me. I especially loved the adorable Easter egg macarons. The tea is available Saturday and Sunday afternoons; simply make a reservation online for 2 or 3 pm.
Cheekwood in Bloom
Visiting Cheekwood in Bloom is one of my favorite springtime birthday traditions; the gardens are always so colorful and cheerful; plus, they just opened their new garden gift shop! View their events calendar and book tickets online.
Dinner at 1 Kitchen
For my birthday dinner on Tuesday, we dined on the greenery-filled patio at 1 Kitchen, the restaurant at the new 1 Hotel downtown. It was both festive and relaxing with delicious food and excellent service. I highly recommend getting the Artisanal Meat and Cheese Plate as well as the Crispy Brussels Sprouts! They even made a gluten-free dessert plate for me. After, we popped up to Harriet’s Rooftop on the 19th floor to see the view. Reserve a table at 1 Kitchen here or Harriet’s here.
Beatrix Potter Exhibition at the Frist
The Frist’s Beatrix Potter Exhibition just opened in time for Easter weekend and will stay open through mid-September. My mom and I just went this afternoon, and it was really cool. Beatrix Potter was a talented artist from a young age as well as a clever writer, and she was passionate about nature, science, and conservation. There is no need to book in advance; just show up, and enjoy.
I hope you have a wonderful April.
P.S. Birthday weekend in Nashville from 2019 with more fun things to do (note: Las Paletas and Sage Sleep have since closed) and thoughts and lessons from my 30th, 29th, 28th, and 27th birthdays (I didn’t do anything for 31, or 32 this year).
