Every summer, my family travels to the Rhode Island coast, where my grandmother built a home in a small pastoral beach town. This is the place that taught me the value of slowing down, living simply, and spending time in nature. Summers here are quiet and calm – I wake up to the songs of birds in the morning and fall asleep to tree frogs at night, windows open to the fresh salt air. Days are mostly spent reading and relaxing on the deck or the beach. We buy fresh groceries from local farm stands and eat well. Rhode Island is always my reset for the year and my reminder that I can find contentment in the day-to-day by being present in my life and connecting with what’s around me. Here are some scenes from this July in the place I love and treasure so much, and a song you might listen to while looking.
